Historic Independence Oregon
For decades, Independence was known as the "Hop Capital of the World". During the first half of the 20th century, over half of the hops harvested in the world passed through Independence. They are still grown here and have experienced a resurgence with the development of Oregon's craft brewing industry.
Historic Independence, located 17 miles from the State Capital, one hour from the Coast, and one hour from Portland, is a friendly, rural community with a rich sense of place. Independence's lively downtown is located along the beautiful Willamette River and offers excellent antiquing, dining, and entertainment.
